Increasing your capacity for mindfulness supports many attitudes that contribute to a satisfied life. Being mindful makes it easier to savour the pleasures in life as they occur, helps you become fully engaged in activities, and creates a greater capacity to deal with adverse events.
By focusing on the here and now, many people who practise mindfulness find that they are less likely to get caught up in worries about the future or regrets over the past. They also tend to be less preoccupied with concerns about success and self-esteem, and are better able to form deep connections with others.
The MBSR programme is an 8-week evidence-based, experiential programme designed to provide participants with intensive and systematic training in mindfulness meditation and movement practices. Through MBSR, participants can discover insights into their behavioural patterns and biases and learn how to transform their daily lives.
MBSR is based on ancient contemplative practices integrated with western medical approaches by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979. It is a systematic training in mindfulness meditation that employs both formal and informal practices. The experiential programme harnesses inner resources and cultivates resilience.
MBSR has been researched for over 40 years and consistently delivers positive outcomes associated with increased self-awareness and emotional and attentional regulation. In addition, positives outcomes have included reductions in symptoms of various physical and behavioural health conditions such as anxiety, depression, stress, chronic pain, and hypertension.
